The Guiding Principle
The Supreme Court is the final court of appeal in India. Under Article 141 of the Constitution, its decisions are binding on every other court in the country. Justice K. Kannan takes up cases whose outcome carries weight beyond the parties before him.
Judicial Background
Justice K. Kannan served as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and then as Chairperson of the Railway Claims Tribunal, before returning to independent practice. Having sat on the other side of the bench, he argues with a working knowledge of how a bench weighs an argument and what a judgment needs to hold up on appeal.
