Strategic Litigation

Justice K. Kannan's primary practice is mediation and negotiated resolution. He also takes up litigation matters that raise questions of public, social or professional importance beyond the parties directly involved. Each matter combines legal research, a written opinion, and an argument before the court.

How Matters Are Handled From Brief to Judgment

A junior prepares the pleadings and initial drafts under Justice K. Kannan’s direction. He reviews and finalises each draft. Where a matter calls for advice rather than a court appearance, he provides a written chamber opinion. Where a matter proceeds to argument, he appears personally before the Supreme Court of India and the High Courts other than the High Court where he served as a Judge. Under the Constitution, these are the only courts a former High Court Judge is permitted to appear.
